I love Carmel, and let's face it - what's not to love? California coast, white sand beaches, quaint downtown district filled with great shops and restaurants, galleries on every corner and an easy going style that makes you feel at home wherever you're from. The Carmel Art and Film Festival is an extension of that feeling - a celebration of the arts in a town that has along tradition of honoring creative endeavors. I have long believed that Carmel is the perfect backdrop for a world-class festival, and seeing come to fruition is a dream come true. I invite you to enjoy five days of independent film, contemporary photography, fine art, and music in one of the world's most magical places.

As a journalist, I have always loved a good story, so when offered a chance to write an article on the Sundance Institute several years ago, I jumped at the chance. Traveling deep into the Wasatch Mountains of Utah, I found an amazing creative safe haven where filmmakers, writers, actors, cinematographers, editors - all people involved in making a film - could perfect their craft with the help of some of Hollywood's best. The environment was absolutely intoxicating, and I came away thinking how great it would be to bring that kind of creative energy to my hometown of Carmel. As a true believer in the transformative power of art, I knew independent film and contemporary art would be make for a wonderful combination, and I was right.
